This article, written by Todd Elliott and Paul Swaim (both of CH2M Hill), was published in the January 2012 issue of Opflow. In it, six North American drinking water utilities share their experiences operating and maintaining UV disinfection facilities. These facilities have operated UV systems ranging from just more than one year to nearly ten years. Total flow capacity ranges from 13 to 180 million gallons per day, most target Cryptosporidium and Giardia inactivation, and all use medium-pressure lamp technologies.
