The 2012 International Workshop on UV Disinfection of Drinking Water and Wastewater was held at Tsinghua University in China on December 18th, 2012. This workshop was co-organized by the Water Industry Division of China Civil Engineering Society and the National UV Disinfection Standards Commission. We were honored to host the event, along with the School of Environment at Tsinghua University.
Over 100 experts from drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities, design institutes, universities and engineering firms attended, including, Mr. Gang Yu, Dean of the School of Environment at Tsinghua University; Ms. Yun Zhang, Vice President of Water Industry Division of China Civil Engineering Society and Mr. Paul Swaim, President of IUVA. Professor Wenjun Liu, Secretary General of Water Industry Division of China Civil Engineering Society and Director of the National UV Disinfection Standards Commission chaired this workshop.
Topics covered during the workshop included the introduction of UV water disinfection technology and application development in the global market, UV technology selection for Chinese water quality, UV technology for a multi-barrier strategy, as well as Chinese drinking water standards and regulations. Overall, workshop discussions aimed to increase awareness of UV disinfection technology for application in China.
China is a growing market for UV technology, and a large number of treatment plants there are choosing UV. We are excited to be part of the vibrant future of UV technology in China and enjoyed being part of this UV workshop.
